Online
Course Development
Electronic
education is an emerging technology, which more and more educators are dealing
with on a daily basis. This course will focus on how to effectively plan and
design distance education courses, determine acceptable standards for quality,
explore useful web tools, and define technology requirements.
We will work
together to investigate the following issues:
Who
– Who are our students, what skills do
they have/need? How do we get them, engage them, evaluate them, and keep them?
What
– What do we need to do to our content
to move it from the classroom to online and should we? What preparation do we
need and what skills should we have? Quality vs. Quantity - does quality really
matter? Is more always better? What are the best practices and how do we
implement them?
When
– When should we begin planning before
putting a class online? When and how can we build a timeline schedule? Are
there tools out there that will help us plan our development timeline?
Where
– Where are the resources that we need
to be successful in an online classroom? Where do we get training/support? What
tools do we need to learn how to use? We
will look at some of the tools that are now available (Camtasia, Live Classroom
(Wimba), Tegrity, Bridge, Flash, etc)
Web
– We will take a look at free web
tools that can be utilized in the classroom. (Wikies, Blogs, Facebook,
SecondLife, etc.)
